CARB Compliance Requirements to Begin January 1; AAMA Outlines
Regulations in New Bulletin
In preparation for the new CARB Compliance Requirements for formaldehyde
restrictions that will take effect on January 1, the American Architectural
Manufacturers Association (AAMA) has released a paper outlining the details
of the requirements and how they will affect the industry.
According to AAMA, windows containing less than 5 percent composites are
exempt from the requirements, and doors made with ultra-low-emitting formaldehyde,
containing less than 3 percent composites, are also exempt.
In order to meet the requirements, AAMA warns that door and window manufacturers
must meet the fabricator requirements, which mandates that they do the
following:
- Label every product or box;
- Use only compliant composites;
- Keep records for two years;
- Be prepared for random inspections; and
- Sell through the grace period of 18 months to deplete inventory of
products made prior to the regulations.
